Mobile phone sales boost Samsung profits
Monday February 01, 2010
Samsung posted a net profit of £1.7 billion in the final three months of 2009, fuelled by growth in sales of HDTVs and mobile phones.
As well as selling 11 million flatscreen televisions, Samsung recorded 70 million mobile phone unit sales over the fourth quarter of 2009, representing a jump of 16 per cent over the same period in 2008.
Over the course of year Samsung was able to sell in excess of 277 million mobiles around the world and a spokesperson said that the firm is expecting "positive growth across its businesses in 2010".
The sales of mobile phones confirm Samsung as the world's second largest mobile manufacturer in terms of volume, although it is still playing second fiddle to Nokia which has sat at the top of the ladder for many years.
