An interesting under-the-hood change has come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread – a new file system called ext4. Ext4 is by now operating in Google’s huge data centers, starting with the Google Nexus S. The reason why Google chose ext4 for their data centers has more often than not to do with the file system”s improved support and performance when dealing with large files and large storage drives. Well, almost to the end of the year our mysterious, magical Android tablets that we saw at CES at the beginning of the year actually making it to the market. There have been some, but nothing too notable other than the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Today, we have another Android tablet that is actually shipping, the Stream TV eLocity A7.
The eLocity A7 sports a 1Ghz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, a 7-inch capacitive touch screen with 800×480 resolution, Android 2.2, a front facing webcam, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of on board flash memory. The A7 also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and something nice is that the tablet has “Google’s blessing” with the Android Market included. Read more… »
